Winter Hangs On in New Hampshire’s White Mountains

Wildcat late March

Royalty Inn guests were greeted with another 8 inches of new snow early this Thursday morning. Despite the fact that today is the first day of spring, there is no sign of spring-like weather in the near future. Wildcat Mountain was reporting 10 inches new at the base of the mountain and nearby Sunday River was boasting up to a foot of fresh snow!

My wife Lisa is a ski instructor at Bretton Woods Resort. While warming up in the base lodge yesterday, she ran into the chief meteorologist for Portland’s channel six, Joe Cupo. They struck up quite a conversation. Joe said that the northeast has been stuck in the same unusually cold and stormy winter pattern since late November and commented “I do not see any change to this pattern any time soon”. Great news for skiers!

All of our local mountains are in fantastic shape with deep bases of snow, which bodes well for a long and fun spring ski season. The Royalty Inn still offers discounted tickets for Wildcat, Attitash and Sunday River. Our indoor pool, the sauna & Jacuzzi await and are free to all of our hotel guests. This is a great time for a last minute trip to the White Mountains. We look forward to seeing you!
